Introducing PTsquared

PTsquared is a intended to be an informational and educational blog focused on health, fitness, wellness, rehabilitation and training. My plan is to provide information that is evidence based and/or experience based.  Let me start by introducing myself and addressing my background to set the stage. This blog will be the only blog centered around me or my curriculum vitae. However the blog will revolve around my opinion on all matters health related.

I'm a physical therapist, but my career didn't start out in the field. I graduated from high school in 1990 and joined the Marine Corps. I served 6 years and I won't bore you with the details, but while on active duty I obtained my Associates Degree in Pre-Physical Therapy.  Basically, getting the prerequisites for PT school. I moved back to home state of Louisiana to attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. I received my Bachelor's in Exercise Physiology. Then subsequently went to PT school and received my Masters of Science at the University of Central Florida. I then immediately started working in the Acute care hospital (Level I trauma center) in Orlando. I then moved to the Denver Metro area to work in a Level II trauma center since 2006. In the summer of '09, I received my certification as a Cancer Exercise Specialist. I run a Cancer Rehabilitation and Survivor Wellness program. I share space with and assist in an outpatient cardiac rehabilitation practice attached to the hospital for over four years now.

That's a little about how I got here. So, most of my drive for wellness and why Cancer Rehab? Well, the Friday before my last semester of undergrad I lost my mom to lung cancer. Then about a year after graduating from PT school lost my great friend to a rare cancer. Cardiovascular disease runs on both sides of my family.

Ok, now my beliefs as it pertains to health. I believe that a majority of all cardiovascular disease is preventable and that, I know, is a pretty bold stance. I'm starting to believe that most of the cancer's today are too preventable.  I also believe that our diet may be the cause.  Now before you claim I'm crazy let me explain.  What I've proclaimed is not an absolute - that would be ludicrous. I think that we are completely and inadvertently doing this to ourselves. In the coming posts I hope to engage my followers in thoughtful reasons why and how we fix it.
